Mr. Nick Cave is making his return to the Silver Screen, writing the screenplay for the upcoming film Lawless. He is also collaborating on the score with Warren Ellis, Cave’s bearded bandmate in the Bad Seeds and Grinderman who he’s also worked with on the music for five different films already. Returning to fold too is director John Hillcoat, who had the same title for two of those projects, The Road and The Proposition.
Lawless, a tale of two brothers during Prohibition, stars fellow Aussie Guy Pearce, Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, and is based on Matt Bondurant novel entitled “The Wettest County In The World”. It will be screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May and opens in theaters nationwide on August 31. Cave and Ellis’ music seems to be the perfect backdrop for this liquor bootlegging, violent period piece. The trailer can be viewed below.
