Michele Mahone is the weekend gossip reporter for channel 9 network Australia, where she regularly explains southernisms like biscuits. In her first contribution to Ustralian, she reminisces about the spectacle that was The Golden Globes.
Ah award season has begun. Much was expected from the Ricky Gervais return but not much was delivered. He started off with a healthy dose of zingers, my favorite being the Kate Middleton/Kim Kardashian comparison but then…….he left. I felt like I was buying a used car, the old bait and switch. I don’t think roughly six minutes of screen time does hosting make. Ricky has said he won’t be back next year, he wants to end on a high. That would have meant stopping last year.
I was counting the days, literally, until the show. Imagine my disappointment when I found myself waiting for it to be over so I could make an ice-cream run. I was like a kid that didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. Was it the boring speeches? A tamer less shocking Ricky? I’ll need more time to ponder.
The Globes are supposed to be the looser, drunker, anything goes award show. Not so much. There was almost a Madonna/Elton smack down, that would have been good. Sadly we seemed to care more about their feud than they did.
In the end there was ice-cream. That was my favorite part of the night, and a lesson was learned: Buy snacks before the show. It could be a long, long wait.
